M022
Balboa M022: program memory failure
M022 means program memory failure. At power-up the system has failed the program checksum test, which the guide calls a firmware problem that requires a service call. This wording is from Balboa guide 40985-G, 26 March 2014, for BP2500 and BP2600 with a TP800 or TP900 panel.
At Power-Up, the system has failed the Program Checksum Test. This indicates a problem with the firmware (operation program) and requires a service call.

Leave it powered down
The asterisk means the panel can reset some messages. This line still requires a service call. Do not open the pack and do not reload software yourself.
When to call a technician
Call a technician now if
- The breaker or the RCD trips when the pump is plugged in.
- You smell burning, see melted plastic, or the water is too hot to touch.
- The code comes back after one reset.
Also call for these, from the manual
- Call for service for M022. A failed program checksum is not a filter, a sensor plug, or a button sequence in this guide.
Questions
Will a power cycle fix the checksum?
The message already appears at power-up, and the guide says it requires a service call. It does not say that turning the spa off and on repairs the firmware.
