M029
Balboa M029: the water is too hot
M029 means the water is too hot. Functions are disabled at 110°F (43.3°C) or more. This wording is from Balboa guide 40985-G, 26 March 2014, for BP2500 and BP2600 with a TP800 or TP900 panel. The system resets by itself when the water is below 108°F (42.2°C).
The system has detected a spa water temp of 110°F (43.3°C) or more, and spa functions are disabled.

Do this first
-
Wait
Stay out until it resets itself
Do not use the spa while the functions are disabled. The guide says the system will auto reset when the water is below 108°F (42.2°C). Do not open the heater to speed that up.
-
Settings
Look at pumps and the air around the spa
The guide says to check for extended pump operation or a high ambient temperature. It does not give another cool-down procedure.
When to call a technician
Call a technician now if
- The breaker or the RCD trips when the pump is plugged in.
- You smell burning, see melted plastic, or the water is too hot to touch.
- The code comes back after one reset.
Also call for these, from the manual
- Call for service if M029 returns after the water has cooled below 108°F (42.2°C). Do not open the pack.
Questions
Should I press a button to clear M029?
Not from this line. The guide says the system resets by itself below 108°F (42.2°C). A button reset is printed for other messages, such as M017 and M028, not for this one.
