M030

Balboa M030: the heater is too hot

M030 means the heater is too hot. One sensor has detected 118°f (47.8°C) in the heater and the spa is shut down. This wording is from Balboa guide 40985-G, 26 March 2014, for BP2500 and BP2600 with a TP800 or TP900 panel. Do not clear it until the water is below 108°f (42.2°C).

One of the water temp sensors has detected 118°f (47.8°C) in the heater and the spa is shut down.

Models this page covers: BP2500, BP2600, TP900, TP800

Do this first

  1. Power

Leave it shut down while it cools

The spa is already shut down. Do not keep heating, and do not open the heater. The guide says to clear the message only when the water is below 108°f (42.2°C).

  1. Water level

    Then use the flow checks

The page points this message at the flow checks: low water level, suction-flow restrictions, closed valves, trapped air, too many closed jets, and pump prime.

When to call a technician

Call a technician now if

  • The breaker or the RCD trips when the pump is plugged in.
  • You smell burning, see melted plastic, or the water is too hot to touch.
  • The code comes back after one reset.

Also call for these, from the manual

  • Call for service if M030 returns after the water has been below 108°f (42.2°C) and the message was cleared. Do not open the heater.

Questions

Is M030 the same limit as M029?

No. M029 is spa water at 110°F (43.3°C) or more, and it resets by itself below 108°F (42.2°C). M030 is 118°f (47.8°C) in the heater, and you clear it only after the water is below 108°f (42.2°C).
