E04

Coleman E04: thermometer reads over 119°F

E04 means the pump thermometer reads the water over 119°F (48°C). This line is from Coleman owner's manual 90427E, document 303021298886, for pumps S100105 and S100205. The spa is not designed to operate above 104°F (40°C). This is not the 2025 European Lay-Z-Spa hot-alarm line.

The pump's thermometer reads the water temperature over 119°F(48°C).

Models this page covers: S100105, S100205

Do this first

  1. Power

    Unplug and stay out

Unplug now and do not get in. The manual says the spa is not designed for water greater than 104°F (40°C). Restart only when the water reaches 100°F (38°C) or lower.

  1. Reset

Push the reset before you restart

The error table says to push the pump's reset button before you restart. Do that only after the water is 100°F (38°C) or lower. Do not open the pump.

  2. Wait

If it sat in direct sun, drain and wait

The manual lists ambient temperature higher than 104°F (40°C) or a long time in direct sun. Unplug, detach the pump, drain the spa, wait 15 minutes, reattach, plug in and try heating again. If the alarm returns, move the spa out of direct sun.

When to call a technician

Call a technician now if

  • The breaker or the RCD trips when the pump is plugged in.
  • You smell burning, see melted plastic, or the water is too hot to touch.
  • The code comes back after one reset.

Also call for these, from the manual

  • Contact Bestway USA if the water is lower than 113°F (45°C) and E04 returns. The manual says the pump thermometer is then broken. Do not open the heater or the wiring.

Questions

Is E04 the same code as E08 in this manual?

No. In manual 90427E, E04 is a thermometer reading over 119°F (48°C), with restart at 100°F (38°C). E08 is the thermal cut-out, with restart at 93.2°F (34°C). Follow the code on the display.
