HL

Gecko HL: heater water at 119°F

HL means the water temperature in the heater has reached 119°F (48°C). The guide says the system has stopped and not to enter the water. It also warns that the heater body may be very hot. Feeling that body, checking probes, and using a voltmeter are service steps.

The water temperature in the water heater has reached 119 °F (48°C). Do not enter spa water!

Do this first

  1. Power

    Stay out of the water

Do not enter the spa. Turn it off. Do not open the pack and do not feel the heater. The guide says the heater body may be very hot.

  1. Wait

Cool it if the weather is very hot

If the outside temperature is very high, the guide says to take the cover off, even overnight, start the blower if the spa has one, wait until the water cools, and add cold water if needed. Then turn the spa off and back on.

  2. Filter

Valves and filter, after a cool reading

The closed-valve and dirty-filter check is only for the case where a digital thermometer reads below 119°F (48°C). Replacing the heater or the pack is the next line in the guide, and that is a service center.

When to call a technician

Call a technician now if

  • The breaker or the RCD trips when the pump is plugged in.
  • You smell burning, see melted plastic, or the water is too hot to touch.
  • The code comes back after one reset.

Also call for these, from the manual

  • If HL remains, the guide says to replace the heater or the control system. Probe plugs and a voltmeter on the heater terminals are in the same pages and are not homeowner steps.

Questions

Does a power cycle clear HL by itself?

The guide includes turning the spa off and back on after the cooling steps, or after a flow check. If the message returns, it says to replace the heater or the pack. Do not keep resetting it and then get in.
